MPF Logo Preschool


Funded through a grant from the state Department of Education, MPF will operate a project which will create an environment where for all stakeholders will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to help students succeed.
The following activities will be implemented under this project:
 
* Establishment of an advisory committee
 
* Development of and conducting of training workshops statewide on:
  • Who is my child? (parent portfolios)
  • The transition from pre-school to public school
  • Connecting the IEP to the regular curriculum and the Learning Results
  • Communication/Negotiation Skills
  • * Material development
  • - Fact sheets on procedural safeguards, IFSP development and IEP development.
  •  
    The partners will work together to ensure that:
    * all IFSPs meet the compliance standards,
    * family members are welcomed into the school and encouraged to be involved in their child's program (more parental involvement),
    * families support and learn from one another, and
    * students have appropriate programs.
     
    Outcomes:
    Activities under this project will help the family to:
    * participate more effectively in the development of the IFSP (Individual Family Services Plan) and the IEP (Individual Education Program),
    * effectively and knowledgeably assist youth in transitioning from the pre-school system to the public school system,
    * understand the procedural safeguards outlined in IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and
    * understand the connection between the Learning Results and the regular curriculum and the needs of their children by developing a parent portfolio.
